nina kethevan - playwright
Nina Kethevan was born in Santa Barbara and at age sixteen moved with her family from San Francisco to French-speaking Switzerland. Later in Paris, having mostly mastered the French diction, she played Gregor’s violin-playing sister in Kafka’s “Metamorphosis” and Anna in Chekhov’s “Ivanov.” Her adaptation of Nijinsky’s journal (and performance of Nijinsky) in Paris won unanimous praise. Le Monde wrote, “An incredibly penetrating and affectionate approach.” Le Figaro: “The actor is magic.” New York Herald Tribune: “Nina Kethevan captures Nijinsky’s madness.” She was subsequently invited to the Cottesloe (now Dorfman) National Theatre for guest performances in English.
Writing Dress of Fire, she realized she was using an ancient legend as pretext for the story that continues to unfold around all of us. Despite its hard-hitting theme, she feels strongly that it is an uplifting play due to the beautiful spirit of its characters.
