LAURA SHAMAS - playwright
LAURA ANNAWYN SHAMAS was born and raised in Oklahoma, and has lived in various places across the U.S., including Tulsa, Denver, and Los Angeles. She writes in multiple genres: theatre, non-fiction, fiction, film.
Shamas has written over 40 plays, and has had many plays published. She’s also written three books. She was the 2017 winner of the Von Marie Atchley Prize for Excellence in Playwriting ($1,000) from Native Voices at the Autry.
Current projects include writing the pilot webisode of the “Little Syria” project for the Middle East Film Initiative, and CIRCULAR, a two-person play about an army psychiatrist on her first tour of Afghanistan. Public readings of CIRCULAR were performed at Artemisia Theatre in Chicago (Fall Festival 2016) and Capital Stage in Sacramento (Playwrights Revolution 2017).
