JESSie bear - playwright
JESSIE BEAR is a writer, playwright and producer based out of New York City. With director Erin Mee, she is co-founder of This is Not A Theatre Company, and has written for all the company’s critically-acclaimed premieres, including Versailles 2015/2016, an immersive house party; Ferry Play, a pod play for the Staten Island Ferry; Readymade Cabaret, a Dada-inspired cabaret; A Serious Banquet, a cubist dinner party; and Pool Play which took place entirely in a swimming pool.
Jessie is the writer, producer, and star of Type What Now, inspired by her experience with diabetes. Type What Now premiered to a sold-out run at the 2015 New York International Fringe Festival, where it was named a FringeFAVE. Jessie holds a B.A. from Swarthmore College and an MFA in Dramatic Writing from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. Her work has been featured in the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and American Theatre magazine, and supported by the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council among others.
